There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den betting is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that features numerous conveniences on top of the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
