There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, features 150 slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that contains many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
